Lomprayah Koh Tao Pier is 1.6 km from Char Bungalows; pick-up truck taxis connect the pier with Chalok Baan Kao, and the guest house provides a paid shuttle service. Free public parking is available nearby, with no reservation required. Ferry connections reach the island from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Chumphon and Surat Thani. Sailings may be cancelled in rough seas, most often from November to January.

The southern coast has several coves and beaches, including Ao Phakbung (600 m) and Haad June Juea (700 m). Sun Suwan Viewpoint is 1.8 km away, and John-Suwan Mountain Viewpoint, overlooking Ao Chalok and Ao Thian Beach, is 2 km away. Scuba diving is a major Koh Tao activity, with more than 25 dive sites around the island; whale sharks are seen most often in March–May and September–October. The west and south coasts, including Chalok Baan Kao, are generally calmer from November to March.
